This is an installation piece from 2001. An unassuming, robotic table targets a single person in the room and tries to interact with that person. After making initial contact, the table reads the person’s behavior and then engages in a number of possible behaviors, from cornering the person to dancing in place. I like the piece because it reverses the normal interaction between user and object: the person is now the object of interaction for the table. I also like how the technology is completely invisible, putting all of the focus on the humor and mystery between the person and the table.
